Always Card

Happy Thursday! 

I was thinking about the watercolor challenge over at the Moxie Fab World blog again, and thought it would be fun to play with some distress inks and water.  I used a few shades of purple, which were rubbed onto an acrylic block and spritzed with water.  Using a paint brush, I brushed the various shades of purple onto a cardstock panel and created a pretty, purple background.  I was going for an ombre effect, but it didn't quite turn out how I envisioned, so I ended up cutting apart the panel and using just a square.  I'll keep the rest of the paper for another project.  Here's the card that I ended up making: 

Once I cut apart the cardstock panel, I used a Lawn Fawn heart die to cut a heart out of the middle.  Next, I stamped the sentiment, which is from the Word Salad stamp set by Paper Smooches and popped the panel up on some foam adhesive.  A few sequins and some twine finished the card.  Oh, and I used my corner rounder to soften the edges of the watercolor panel and the card base. 

And I think I'd be pretty happy to receive this card in the mail, so I'll be playing along with this week's Simon Says Stamp Challenge "Happy Mail".

The Wonder of Watercolor

Howdy,

Have you been loving the watercolor trend too?  One of the challenges over at the Moxie Fab World Blog is to create something using this medium.  I've been having fun playing with my Inktense pencils, so I thought I'd create a watercolor card with them: 

What better image than a fish, right??  ...Alright, I just wanted to use this stamp ;)  It's an image of a longnose butterfly fish for all you non- ichthyologists (one who studies fish).  And although I may have taken a lot just a bit of artistic license with it's color, I do like how it turned out.  I started by embossing it in black and then colored the image with the pencils.  To finish it off, I added a few water dots from the French Foliage stamp set (SU) in a light gray ink.  I don't think all cards need sentiments, especially if the images can be used for various occasions, so I chose to leave the card without one.  Plus, this way, it reminds me more of the Japanese fish print images (gyotaku), which are super cool!  I'll probably end up using it for an upcoming birthday though.

Tuesday Trigger

Hey There,

Just wanted to stop by and share a card for this week's Tuesday Trigger Challenge over the Moxie Fab World Blog.  Here's our inspiration photo:  

Isn't it pretty?  Here's my card: 

(*Quick, Mom, avert your eyes!*... you may be seeing this card again...)  

I used the Hero Arts background stamp "Large Flower Background" to create this card.  I stamped and embossed the image in white and then colored it in with my Inktense pencils.  I love the subtle watercolor look that can be achieved with these pencils!  After I finished coloring, I added antique linen distress ink to help the white pop off the page a bit.  Lastly, I added a few finishing touches: green satin ribbon, my sentiment, and a lace edge.

Happy Friday! 

I just wanted to share a fun little card for one the Card Creations Challenges over at the Moxie Fab World Blog.  This is for the Speech Bubble Challenge.   

I thought it would be fun to make a card based on the iMessage iPhone app.  Here's my take: 

I cut out a square of green paper and rounded the corners with my Corner Chomper.  I noticed that the app actually has some subtle stripes that run diagonally, so I stamped the Notebook Paper stamp from Paper Smooches with VersaMark to get the subtle green color I wanted.  Next I punched out 2 circles and stamped/embossed the number 1 (Smitty's ABC's, LF).  I then die cut a speech bubble from my Lawn Fawn dies out of white paper and vellum. 

I adhered the vellum slightly off to give the speech bubble some dimension as though it was shaded with a marker.  I think it's kind've a neat look.  The speech bubble and circles are adhered with foam tape. 

I then added my sentiment (Perpetual Bliss, Paper Smooches) and some twine (LF) to finish off the card.

Elegant Emerald

Hey There, 

I just wanted to pop in to share a card for the Moxie Fab World Tuesday Trigger Challenge: Elegant Emerald.  Here is our inspiration: 

Gorgeous, right?  Here's my take on it: 

I started by inking the background panel with distress inks and then stamping one of my Hero Arts background stamps (leaf and floral) over it.  I then added some vellum and stamped the Hero Arts envelop pattern in navy to resemble the model's veil.  Next came the  sentiment (PTI's Bountiful Banners), which is stamped in navy.  I surrounded the sentiment strip with gold striped washi tape as a nod to the model's pretty gold belt.  I think the butterfly is self-explanatory :)  It's a memory box die. 

 

I also want to enter it into the current A Blog Named Hero Challenge: Free Style.  And since butterflies come back in Spring, I'll also enter this into the Simon Says Stamp Challenge: Easter/Spring.  And I'll add it to Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday: Inked Backgrounds.

Chevron Challenge

Happy Weekend! 

I've been enjoying the posts over at the Moxie Fab World blog about the new Card Creations magazine.  There are a bunch of fun challenges that will run for the month, so I thought I'd play along with the chevron challenge! 

Here's what I came up with: 

I used a chevron heart stamp from the Hearts a Flutter set by Stampin' Up to make the majority of the elements on this card.  It has a matching die, so I cut out a bunch of hearts and adhered them together to make a flower bunch and two butterflies.

The background is stamped with the Interlocking Backdrops set and the sentiment is from Flying By-- both from Lawn Fawn.  

 

And since there's a bit o' green in the card, I'll be entering this week's Simon Says Stamp Challenge.

Camera Craze

Happy Wednesday! 

Hope everyone's week is going well!  We got about a foot of snow, so it was a snow day for most everyone.  We lost power for a few hours, but everything is back on now-- including the internet!  Woot!  

While I was without power, I thought I would make another card for this month's Moxie Fab World Challenge: Camera Craze. 

I'd like to be better at clean and simple cards, so here's my attempt: 

I used the camera from Paper Smooches Perpetual Bliss stamp set and embossed it with white embossing powder.  The starburst background is from Hero Arts/Studio Calico and is one of my favorite stamps.  I masked off the top part of the starburst and just included the bottom part on the card.  I thought it would be a good way to move one's eye towards the sentiment, which is from Mama Elephant (Smitten).

Camera Craze Challenge

Happy Friday! 

I just wanted to stop by to share a card for the current challenge at the Moxie Fab World Blog: The Camera Craze Challenge.

I don't seem to actually have any camera stamps or dies, but I did have some camera related paper!  I used a sheet from the Amy Tangerine Sketchbook by American Crafts.  Here's my card: 

  
I sentiment is from Mama Elephant (Smitten) and the smile is from Lawn Fawn (Sunny Skies).  I thought the smile made the picture look a bit like it was developing.  I also used my Papertrey Ink polaroid die and some silver washi tape to finish the card.

Hi Everyone! 

Oh.em.gee.  I love Mama Elephant!  They have such fun stamp sets full of great images and awesome sentiments!  I'm playing along again with the Moxie Fab World 75 Card Challenge #23: Make an Itty Bitty Card.  This is my second entry-- you can see my first card here. 

For this itty, bitty card, I used a few Mama Elephant sets: 

The card measures 2 1/2 x 3 inches.  I used good times, smitten, and basic borders by Mama Elephant to make this card.  I started by using peacock feathers, evergreen bough, and salty ocean distress inks to create a pattern for the background using the feather stamp.  I then stamped the dot pattern in soft granite ink on a strip of cardstock, embossed the sentiment in black, and fussy cut two feathers to finish the card.

It's feast or famine over at this blog ;)  I'm back with my second post today, which is also for the Moxie Fab World 75 Creative Card Challenge: #49 Make Your Own Background Paper.  

Here's my card: 

For the background, I used Lawn Fawn's Interlocking Backdrops stamp set and colored hexagons at random with copics.  I then placed a piece of vellum over top to soften the look.  The patterned paper is from American Crafts (Amy Tangerine Sketchbook Paper Pad, and Hip Hip Hooray Paper Pad), which I cut into strips with banner ends.  I purposely curled up the ends to give the card a little more movement.  I then adhered a tiny handmade envelop and the sentiment to finish the card.

Happy Place Card

TGIF!  Happy Friday, Everyone! 

Today's card is for the Moxie Fab World 75 Creative Card Challenges: Challenge #23: Make an Itty Bitty Card. 

The challenges is to make a card no bigger than 3x3, so here's my take: 

It's hard to fit everything on such a tiny card!  Mine measures 3x3.  I used the Hero Arts/Studio Calico Starburst background stamp for the base of the card.  The rainbow die is from MFT and the clouds are PTI.  The sentiment is from Paper Smooches and is embossed in black.  I added some pretty prisma glitter to the clouds with my xyron sticker maker.  It's the first time I used it, and it was super easy-- totally would recommend getting one.
