Creative Blog Hop

Last week I had the pleasure of being asked by the sweet and talented Niki Garcia of Stampin' HI to participate in the Creative Blog Hop.

I love Niki's work! And I'm not the only one-- she's been recognized many times around blog-land and even has several publications to her name! Such an honor :)

Alright, so now time for the Q&A:

About Me:

I'm a married mother of two cats and a dog living on the beautiful island of Oahu. I'm a nurse practitioner by day (and evening and sometimes night too!), and when I'm not out exploring my surroundings, you'll find me stamping away. My mom was my enabler and got be addicted to stamping in the summer of 2012 while by husband was away with the Army-- and I was never able to kick the habit once he got back ;) And as they say, the rest is history!

And now for the real questions from the Creative Hop:

1. What am I working on?
I'm working on a lot of things...mainly maintaining a better work-life balance. I've found that my job seems to leave little room for much extra, and stamping often gets put on the back burner. I'm hoping that as I become more settled, I'll find more time for creating :) As for my crafty endeavors, I'm working on my next video for Lawn Fawn-- stay tuned for next week!

2. How does my work differ from others of its genre?
Hmm...this is a tough question. I'm not really sure my work differs in the sense that it's particularly unique. That being said, I try not to get bogged down in whatever is trending and just keep making things that I like. And hope that others subsequently like or find inspiration in my work :)

3. Why do I create what I do?
This is easy. Because stamps are so. freakin'. addicting. 'Nuff said.

4. How does your creative process work?
Hmm, probably by shopping. Lol. I love to look at crafty things at the store and often find inspiration in being at those stores. It's been particularly difficult since moving to Hawaii, because there aren't many craft stores like there were in Virginia. I miss Michael's and Joann's and my local stamp stores, so that's been difficult. But hopefully I'll take a trip back to the Mainland soon and will definitely be hitting up the stores while I'm there!

Okay, that's it! Now it's time to link to the next blog.

I'll be tagging my very dear friend, Allison, from 1 Happy Crafter.

Allison and I used to live across the street from each other and also work together. Needless to say, we saw a lot of each other! We have lots in common other than stamping, so I miss seeing her and spending time shopping and card making with her! I know you'll enjoy her blog :)

Alright that's it for me today! Thanks for stopping by!

It's Your Special Day

Happy Monday! (an oxymoron, perhaps? ;) )

Today is my sister-in-law's birthday, so I'm sharing her birthday card:

I made a quick watercolor background using several colors of distress ink. Once the background was dry, I stamped the sentiment from Mama Elephant's Splendid set in black ink. I then stamped over it with Versamark ink and embossed with clear glitter powder to give the card some extra sparkle :).  After that, I used Lawn Fawn's stitched rectangle dies to cut out the sentiment and patterned paper for the card base. I finished the card with some die cut hearts that were covered with the wink of stella clear glitter pen and glossy accents:

I love the added dimension of the glossy accents!

Thanks for stopping by! Happy Birthday, Noriko!

Welcome Baby

Happy Sunday!

Today have a simple baby card for share for my new niece :)

I used Lawn Fawn's new Snow Day stamp set and paper pack.  I love, love, love the patterned paper in the Snow Day collection. I really like that the colors aren't traditional holiday colors, so the papers can definitely be used for year round cards like this one. I also used Finley's ABC's, which I think are my new favorite alpha letters- I just adore the playful font! After die cutting my sentiment, I stamped and colored the bunnies. And lastly, to make confetti, I stamped the snowflake images in aqua and gold ink. The card is finished with some gold sparkle lawn trimmings.

Fall Shaker Card

Hey!

I'm over at the Lawn Fawn blog today sharing a Fall shaker card.  It's actually been hot as Hades around here, so I'm having to use a lot of imagination thinking of the leaves changing colors and crisp air! But I suppose things could be worse than living in *very* sunny Hawaii... ;)

Kitties in the Kitchen

Hi Again!

Another post and a month hasn't passed already...?! Ha! ;)

It's been a while since I've just sat down and made a card without a plan.  I used a few of the new Fall/Winter release products from Lawn Fawn, and, let me tell you, they're fabulous!  I think this may be their best release yet.  It's full of amazing dies (yes, you'll need every single one!) and versatile stamp sets that can be used for many occasions.  As you can see, I made a non-holiday card that was inspired by my mischievous siamese kitties:

Does your kitchen ever look like this?  My kitties are always on the counters, so I tried to create a little kitchen scene complete with a kitty on the counter.  I used the cookie jar from "Milk and Cookies" + coordinating die, the mug from "Love You Latte" + coordinating die, and the kitty from "Spooktacular" + coordinating die. The sentiment is pieced together from the sentiments in Spooktacular.  I also used some patterned paper from Hello Sunshine to make a backsplash or kitchen tile.

I created the frame for the card using both the large and small stitched rectangular dies (yes, you'll need both sets of dies!).

Thanks for visiting today :)  I've been in a serious crafty rut lately, but hope to start making more cards... so hopefully I'll be posting more regularly (and visiting your blogs too!).

Simple Congrats Card + VIDEO

Hey Everyone!

I have a really simple congratulations card that I'm sharing at the Lawn Fawn blog today.

I used "Chit Chat" and the coordinating dies as the focal point for the card.  A piece of patterned paper from the Hello Sunshine 6x6 paper pack rounds out the main supply list of the card!

You can view the video below or head over to the Lawn Fawn YouTube channel to view the video:

Sorry about my crazy hair blowing every which way in the video!  As most of you know, I live in Hawaii, which means "air conditioning" consists of fans!

Anyways, hope you enjoyed :)

Clean and Simple Thanks

Well where has the time gone?  It's the beginning of June already!  With the summer approaching, I thought I'd use a few of the new Lawn Fawn products from their latest release and create a card inspired by summer sunsets:

It's a pretty simple card.  I just masked the card base with post-it notes and used Scattered Straw distress ink to create a gradient of yellow across the card.  It's hard to see, but I used a few of the filler stamps in Hello Baby to add some texture to the yellow line by stamping them in the same color of distress ink.  I then used a few of the "scene-setting" stamps and stamped them in a nice, crisp black ink.

I finished the card by die cutting the "thanks" die from black and white cardstock. I thought it would tie together the black from the plants and the white from the card base.

Thanks so much for stopping by :)

The Lawnscaping Facebook Inspiration girls are hosting a color-themed blog hop today!  Spectrum Noir has generously donated 2 packs of markers for a lucky commenter to win!  The color packs are green and yellow, so that's our hop theme!

You should have arrived here by way of Sabine's awesome blog

Here's my card using the color inspiration:

I love, love, love Penelope's Blossoms.  It's such a pretty set!  I stamped the large flower bunch image in a light gray ink and then stamped over with yellow and green inks.  I added some shading with colored pencils to give the card a bit of depth.  I then used the Scripty Hello die, which was cut out of green cardstock, and heat embossed it with clear sparkle embossing powder:

And one last photo:

I hope you'll hop along!  The girls are sure to have some awesome projects to share!  Be sure to leave comments along the way for the chance to win these awesome markers!

Lawnscaping Challenge #77: Bling It

It's the first Monday in March, so it's time for another Lawnscaping challenge!  This time we're encouraging you to use sparkle and shine to make your project stand out!

Here's my card:

I use several of the new Lawn Fawn sets: Hello Sunshine, Scripty Hello die, and the Spring Showers dies.  For sparkle, I added lots of clear glitter to the sun, clouds, and hello:

I finished the card by mounting it on some yellow polka dot paper from the Let's Polka paper pack.

I hope you'll play along with us!  Our sponsor is Simon Says Stamp, who will be giving away a $25 gift certificate!

Lawnscaping Challenge #76: Dust 'em Off

We have a really fun challenge for you this week at Lawnscaping!  It's time to give some love to those unloved stamps or products that have just been lingering around!

Here's the card I created for the challenge:

It's a super simple card that uses a bunch of things that I haven't used in a long, long while- the Hero Art's background stamp, Lawn Fawn's Bon Voyage stamp set, and the sentiment from Lawn Fawn's Flying By set.

I also used my Tim Holtz paper distressing tool that I haven't used in a while either.  I love the texture it adds!

I hope you'll join us.  Our sponsor this week is Lawn Fawn, who will be giving away a stamp set of the winner's choice!

Lawnscaping Valentine's Day Blog Hop

Hi and welcome to the next stop on the Lawnscaping Facebook Inspiration Team's Valentine's Day Blog Hop!  I hope you're enjoying all the awesome projects along the way!

You should have come here by way of Taylor's fabulous blog

And without further ado, here's my silly Valentine's Day card:

Soy sauce + wasabi = the perfect pair :)

Hehe.  I can never resist a good pun!  For the main part of the card, I used Lawn Fawn's new Let's Roll stamp set and the coordinating dies.  I created my own patterned paper using the flower image in the Let's Roll stamp set with some Versamark ink on green cardstock.  I then used the Stitched Journaling Card die to die cut both the green "patterned" paper and a piece of white cardstock.  Next, I used the new Speech Bubble Border die to cut through both pieces so I could sandwich the white top with the green bottom.

The sentiment is stamped with a combination of Milo's ABC's and the sentiment included in Let's Roll.  I finished the card with some clear Wink of Stella pen, which I applied over the heart and sentiment.

Your next stop on the hop is my super sweet teammate, Kari!

And don't forget-- we have two awesome prize packs of Spectrum Noir markers!  Winners will be randomly chosen from comments along the way :)

And lastly, if you get lost along the way or have found your way here another way, here is the hop order:
